5 Black People Who Inspire

As a black girl growing up I always felt awkward, and shy. I didn’t have friends, and I thought that I was ugly. But, I have learned how to love myself and know that I am beautiful.

Here are 5 black people who’ve inspired me, hopefully, they inspire you too:

Lizzo

Lizzo inspires me to love my body and to embrace the skin I'm in. As a plus-sized woman, Lizzo influences me to be myself, and don't let haters get to me. Her message is straightforward: love your body, have faith in your abilities, don’t let people treat you like just anything.

Tyra Banks

Like Lizzo, Tyra Banks also inspires me to love my body but, she also inspires me to love myself. In 1996, Tyra Banks became the first black woman to appear on the cover of GQ. A year later, she became the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, as well as the first black woman to be featured in Victoria's Secret lingerie catalog.

Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry inspires me to work hard in order to get what I want and to go after whatever I want. Tyler Perry has 17 feature films, 20 stage plays, 7 television shows, and a New York Times bestselling book. Tyler Perry has built an empire that has attracted audiences and built communities.

Simone Biles

I’m not a gymnast and don’t inspire to be one, but Simone Biles inspires me to be the best that I can be and to work hard for what you want. Simone Biles is the first woman to win three consecutive world all-around titles. She is the most decorated American female gymnast in World Championships history. Simone is known for her never-give-up spirit, her passion, and her determination.

Serena Williams

Serena Williams inspires me just like Simone Biles. She has won 23 major single titles. The Women’s Tennis Association ranked her world No.1 in singles on eight separate occasions between 2002 and 2017 and she holds the most Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles combined.

There are so many people who inspire us all. These people inspire me because they look like me. And when you see someone you can relate to, in whatever way, it makes their reality seem possible for you as well. The sky is the limit.
